After EJ's tonsillectomy, I had my 10 year reunion that was 3 days of memorable and fun events! Although I was in pain and super tired all the time, it was great to see everyone and to do all the things we worked so hard for. When the last event came along, all my friends were saying, "Les, You can give birth now!". And two days later...I did.
Here's the story...
I had to see my doctor because I had experienced light spotting. I asked my mom to drive me so she accompanied me during the appointment. While there, I was shocked to see that my Doctor had a wrist brace on! He explained that he fractured his hand while at the annual Relay For Life event over the weekend. I explained to him what I was feeling, and told him that I also had tiny spotting. Because of this, he had me hooked up to the fetal monitor and we scheduled the cesarean for June 12th. He told me he will not be able to perform my cesarean on the scheduled date because of his injury. I was at 37 weeks.
That night, I had terrible back pains. Much more uncomfortable than what I had already been enduring during the past months. It was so bad that I couldn't even walk. And when I used the restroom, I noticed I passed my mucous plug.
The next morning, I called my clinic and told my doctor what I was feeling and was told to come in to be checked. She told me I needed to go to the hospital to be monitored there. My mom was with me at the clinic, and she immediately called my husband to tell him I needed to be admitted. He picked me up from the clinic and we went straight to the hospital. While I was hooked up to the monitors, after all the preliminary checks, the nurse came in and told me I am having contractions. I was surprised because I couldn’t tell. The nurse pointed to the pain chart and asked me where was I in terms of pain. I was still at the semi smiley face…the one right after the extremely happy one. Lol.

The doctor who was overseeing my care came in about an hour later and told me that since I’m in active labor, the cesarean would have to be done that day.
So my husband called everyone and my parents and in laws came to visit.
The anesthesiologist came in and talked to me about the anesthesia. He described sensations that are normal after having a spinal tap. I was wheeled to the OR and everything happened so quickly. I was given the spinal tap, and quickly fell numb from the neck down. They gave me oxygen. My husband finally came in and was all scrubbed up. Doc started the cesarean, and I started to feel my chest getting heavy. There was a sharp pain on my right shoulder socket area. I started to freak out a bit. The anesthesiologist was standing by behind me right where my head was resting. I told him what I was feeling and he just told me to take deep breaths. I then felt the pulling and tugging. Shortly afterwards, I heard the cries of my sweet baby boy. Doc brought him over to me and I laid my teary eyes on him.
First thought that came to my head was he had a full head of hair! And he was huge! While he was being weighted, measured and cleaned up, I heard everyone in the room was making comments “9 lbs 2 oz” “21 inches” “big boy!”, A lot of hair”. The first thing I said, “Where’s his back pack? He looks ready for school!”. Everyone laughed. My husband kissed me, told me he loved me and went to see our new blessing. He brought him over to me. Silas opened his beautiful eyes. I kissed him and still with tears in my eyes, I told him I love him. A nurse was kind enough to take a picture of the three of us.
I fell in love again on May 30th, 2012 4:30pm.
